Q: Do you have to be in shape to start?
A: No. Thai boxing is adaptable to any ability level and to
any fitness level. Whether you are a total novice or someone
who has not worked out in awhile or an athlete who is looking
for an intense exercise experience, Thai boxing can be adapted
to meet your physical needs.
Q: How would Thai boxing get me in shape faster than a
traditional exercise program, like running and lifting weights?
A: Thai boxing is a cross-training art. Not only do you receive
intense resistance training, but aerobic and anaerobic benefits
as well. Thai boxing develops physical strength, increased
cardiovascular abilities, and endurance.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: No. We have members as young as 5 years old in the children's
program, and we have adults of all ages.
Q: I'm 55 years old. Am I too old to start?
A: As with any exercise program, it's wise to get an OK from
your doctor before you begin a new workout. Age alone is not
the relevant factor; it is your overall condition.
Q: Are there a lot of injuries?
A: No, not with regular training. As soon as you start sparring,
there may be some injuries, which is true of any contact workout.
Q: Do you have a belt system?
A: No. Thai boxing is more like Western-style boxing in terms
of progression. We do not have a stratified belt system that
allows you to move up a martial arts "ladder", so
to speak. We do offer testing for those who chose to become
Senior Students or Assistant Instructors.
Q: Do you have competitions?
A: We have fights. We can train you for the amateur level
or we can take you all the way to professional Thai boxing.
Q: Do I have to fight if I'm a member?
A: No, you don't. In fact, most of our members don't fight.
They chose Thai boxing as an intense, alternative workout
program.
Q: Do you have a lot of women in your gym?
A: About a third of our members are women.
Q: Is there a required uniform?
A: While we recommend wearing Thai boxing shorts to work out
in, they are not required.
Q: How many days a week should I train?
A: 3-4 days a week is recommended for optimal fitness. Since
our facility also boasts a full Olympic weight center, and
an aerobic/ yoga fitness center, you can cross-train with
the Thai boxing for a complete well-rounded workout.
Q: What will I need to start?
A: Wraps, bag gloves, and Thai shorts would be recommended
at first.
Q: Do you sell all the equipment I might need?
A: Yes, we sell all the equipment a serious Thai enthusiast
would need.
