To efficiently lose body fat one must incorporate resistance training. There must be a mixture of cardiovascular training with weight resistance. The more lean muscle mass one has the more body fat they will be able to lose. With increased muscle mass the faster the body's metabolism works. If you have ever looked in an aerobics class you just might see the same people always looking the same, ( there are those exceptions) but most of the time the ones you see making the greatest changes to their bodies are the ones who mix Cardio and Weight resistance training.
Very few types of workouts will work everything that the body needs to make the desired changes. Cardio will strengthen the heart and increase the efficiency of oxygen use, leading to higher levels of endurance. However, if that is all you do it will be hard to increase muscle mass. The same is true in the reverse, if all one does is resistance training they will not be hitting the cardiovascular and endurance sides. True one can circuit train but they will not have the same benefits of doing a full Cardio and muscle mass building program. It is to such an advantage to train one day resistance and on the opposite day train Cardio.
It is also strategically important to incorporate proper nutrition for your specific desires and outcomes. I do not like to use the term diet do to the negative connotations that society has put upon that term. I like to use nutrition, it is much more appropriate and positive.
When following your progress you should not just go by the scale. Your weight might go up, but that does not mean anything bad. It probably means that your muscle mass has increased and the fat is not moving as quick as the muscle. One should use a scale, mirror, pictures, the way your close fit and a body fat analysis to truly see where you are in regards to where you started.
A workout program is all about consistency. It has to become a life choice and a way of life. There is a lot of discipline and dedication involved. It is important to make small, achievable goals that can be reached. This is the key to being successful in making the changes that you want, weather it is for health reasons, to look better, or to enter competitions. What ever your goal is this formula should be applied for the best results.
